Doing a podcast is a dream coming true, because to me, “podcast is life.”
I grew up happily with my grandparents in a little village in China, while my parents were pursuing intellectual fun in Japan. My mom was wearing a white coat and working in a frosty lab researching DNAs in plants. She later became an ambassador to build cultural collaborations between the two countries. My dad was studying media production and having a blast doing Japanese culinary arts in his spare time.
They decided to come back and spend more time with me when one day I absent-mindedly called my mom “auntie.“ We later moved to a beautiful water-bound city (Suzhou) in China.
The first 6 years in elementary school were one of the best times in my life. We got to play outside, listen to music, paint with brushes, dance, host events, and play until it was deeply dark outside.
I came across Oprah Winfrey’s show later and fell in love with this lady. She has been the north star guiding me through life’s little adventures. “I want to host a podcast one day!”
Later on, I found myself spending all my waking time studying for exams and tests. I was surrounded by wickedly smart kids. “Am I smart enough?“ I always ask myself. Despite the true excitement of pursuing a doctoral degree, I think part of this effort is trying to persuade myself that I am not as stupid as I think. ;P
Fast forward, I have never stopped adventuring and collaborating with magical people. Nevertheless, due to various reasons, I fell into an extended period of the dark night of the soul. I tried a wide collection of strategies to restore the passion within. It dawned on me one day that our ability to connect with the “childlike wonder“ is one of the most primal and powerful magic within. Re-awakened, I am dedicating this podcast to current and future leaders across organizations and startups to re-awaken our childlike wonders and magic.
Let’s take a deep breath, and embrace your MAGIC within.
